The challenge
"I decided to take up the offer of workplace coaching when it was advertised to all employees. I was unsure exactly what to expect but was hopeful of gaining tools to improve my communication skills and to help me better express myself in the workplace. Rich and I met for a “chemistry meeting” and we discussed our expectations for working together. I welcomed the chance to find out more and to take the positive decision that this was a process I wanted to commit to."
The Solution
"My key expectation of a coach was to be listened to with respect and to be encouraged rather than criticised to find an alternative path. Rich met both these needs admirably, being able to listen with interest to my current situation and to challenge my perspective, helping me to identify how I could have engaged in a more positive way with the situations we discussed. Using his listening and questioning skills and his knowledge of patterns of behaviour, Rich was able to help me develop a more thoughtful approach to my interactions with my colleagues.
"The coaching process has been of personal value; I feel more able to express both positive and negative feelings to my colleagues and consequently more truly belong in my work environment. As yet I have not reached the end of the changing process, instead I see the coaching as a catalyst for change, providing me with the tools I need to develop and leaving me with the opportunity to implement them in a way that works for me and for my colleagues. I believe that, with practise, being able to clearly and effectively communicate with my colleagues will be very beneficial to my effectiveness at work since it is crucial to the team work required in my role."
Given the positive impact that Rich’s coaching has had on my own outlook, I would highly recommend it to others. There is one caveat though which is that it will only help people who are prepared to acknowledge what they would like help with and are prepared to be challenged in their current position to motivate change.

The Result
"I think the service provided by Rich has a multi-facetted benefit to Diamond. The immediate and more obvious benefits are that coaching has provided an individual, tailored approach for assisting with my known ‘soft skills’ difficulties. This has had a direct impact on my productivity and resulted in an improvement in my job satisfaction. Secondly, by my going through the coaching process, I have improved my relationships with my colleagues, giving them an improvement in workplace satisfaction.
